The book consists of a number of stories aimed for young children, who should find them easy to read. the protagonist is Dexter, a toy dressed as a sailor, which was given to Nicolette by her grandfather Mike. Dexter became friends with other toys and together they started to go through a series of misdemeanours and adventures, even more so when they came face to face with Sooty the cat, Pako the puppy and Whiskers the mouse.
